What is Music Therapy?

What is music therapy?
"Music Therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program."
-American Music Therapy Association

The therapeutic relationship is a top priority. Working with a board certified music therapist ensures safety, guidance about physiological and cognitive processes, and the access to the latest research and recommendations. Cognitive, physical, social, and emotional goals are all potential areas of need that can be addressed in music therapy. Goals that require expertise from outside fields will be addressed as a referral and/or co-treat to ensure quality of services.

Who can benefit from music therapy? Do I have to be good at singing or playing instruments?
